@siegfried: yes... i could use xt1.x as a piano roll vst now... but for the reasons u say i never did... however.. we'll see how far xt 2.5 goes.. i tried the new live markers and it worked.
the best solution still is phrazor by sonicbytes. but due to some NI trickery (this is a widespread assumption) this great vst host plugin was abandoned. phrazor has an excellent clip automation system, and u can template everything. the only failure it has: not quite bug free, and no full screen piano roll. i've done a few live sets with it - but encountered too many bugs. however, its exactly the kind of vst midi sequencer i'd wish to use.

surely, the automation controls won't ever be so kewl as in Usine's own piano roll
