We are proud to announce the latest version of Usine: Hollyhock.

What a strange name for a DAW? We could choose “Dragoon”, “Atomic”, “Warrior” but we choose the name of a simple and common flower…Sensomusic will always be different…

Anyway, Hollyhock is the synthesis of years of practice in electronic music and live. We have designed, with nay-seven and Martin Fleurent the ideal software to create and produce music.

Get ride of the past, Hollyhock has a totally new approach, much more powerful and simpler than ever, as you will discover following this link.

» Usine Hollyhock

Usine has been totally rewritten: new audio engine, new interface, new midi management, etc.

Also, Hollyhock is 64,32 bits Windows and MacOSX, with cross-platform compatible patches, workspaces, scripts, templates, etc.

The first public beta of Hollyhock will be available at the beginning of 2013 and to speed up the definitive version we launch a pre-order. With thispre-order you’ll save 40% of the final price, get 2 years of free updates instead of 1 year, be able to discuss on dedicated forum, participate in product design, post suggestions for the future versions. (For registered users after 1st September 2012, Hollyhock update is free)

We hope that you’ll enjoy this new version.

Olivier Sens

I think my mind just blew a fuse! There's too much to take in! It certainly is a "La Belle Epoque"! Congratulations and thanks must go to Senso, Nay and Martin, you've built what looks like the first true multi touch audio/video instrument - very nice work guys!

There is no link to Hollyhock active on your home page, at least not for me...(using latest Firefox 17 browser).

Congrats on the new generation.

Many questions and quick answers.
- We'll try to ensure the XP compatibility but this platform will not be supported officially.
- the script engine will stay in Pascal like language, which is the simplest for the script purpose.
- the new modules list change every days, so the definitive list will be fixed later.

Wow, looks amazing! I'll admit the new name will take a bit of getting used to but the interface should not be hard ;)
Will current patches/workspaces be compatable and what is the "gear" tab about in the browser? looks intriguing.

edit: just read at the bottom, patches 99% (haha) compatable. close enough hopefully

An Alpha "developers preview" will available soon,
A re-compilation of user's modules will be necessary because the SDK includes now a graphical library.

Magnificent!!

I've been trying so hard to be patient, but I can't stop myself from asking whether or not there is any way of using a touch screen on the Mac OS version, assuming that one has some kind of drivers for the screen. My understanding is that Mac OS is very "unfriendly" with touch screens, and I don't think anyone has said one way or another.

Hmmm . . . I think Usine Hollyhock is relatively independent from whole OS, so you can adopt it for your needs.

Okay Sensomusic team: You guys are pure GENIUS!!!
With the new MIDI-implementation I hope I can finally hook up my Akai Wind Controller through Usine!
Will standalone export and VST-export still be there?
And: With the multi-selection now working, will the GUI's be resizable in that manner?

thanks for all your comments.
about holleasine :) consider hollyhock as a "multi easine" so easine has less sense now.
The list of features is only the first part of what the next version will be. Many more improvements will come...
We didn't talk about osc, remote, conductors, presets, freeframe, etc....

Some questions:

Will one be able to edit the left side menu?
Will one be able to export plugins?
Will one be able to export the workspace as a dedicated app? (e.g. create a custom application/program ?) If yes, could one import VST plugins in that dedicated app?

I'm asking because I'm considering building a dedicated live app that can insert plugins in real time and I'm looking for (ideally) total customisation.

@susceptor
actually all those questions are suspended.
as previous versions we are waiting to finalize totally the actual version before answer precisely.
Exports are very complex in a cross-platform context and will arrive later.

I already hook up my wind controller through Usine. It works. Although the midi reset button gets used frequently. Perhaps in Hollyhock this will be less of a problem.

cool !

- first i was mentioning the compatibilty with XP ? it seem that it would work without any garanty right?
- As i'm not intersted in multi touch possibilities, would it be interesting anyway ?
- do we have to think in terms of "better" if we have to compare Usine and Hollyhock ?
- Usine will still be developed ?
- Hollyhock will it be as light as Usine and same for ressource used ?

thank you

- About XP : yes, exact
- Yes, certainly ! Multitouch is not the only advantage of Usine Hollyhock and can be used with midi controllers/OSC and mouse
- Yes Usine Hollyhock has been totally rewritten by Senso and he made the whole household and improved/rethink many features
- Certainly slower but yes for a while
- You can say lighter ;)

Actually, Usine hollyhock is not ready , we're working on and you'll have access to the first beta in the early months of 2013.
The only difference is that you're not a platinium member, so you don't benefits of the 2 years license as a platinium member who pay his update ( pre-order)

Running Usine5 fairly happily on my Macbook Pro with Bootcamp/Win7 while I wait for the beta.
But Usine is rather lonely in Windows as most of my plugins are in OSX only. I'm wondering will the OSX beta arrive alongside the WIN beta and will we be able to load AU's and VST's into it?

So, reading this forum I understand that Hollyhock will be a kind of Usine V6Pro, and a multiEasine too.
What about Usine Stage ? Will there be a Hollyhock Stage version ?

a quick answer
- OSX and WIN beta's will arrive at the same time.
- OSX version will able to load both AU and VST plugs
- we are not fixed yet about all version (stage, free, pro, etc.) but we are focusing first on the pro.

Hi all and thanks a lot for your work.

In May i will work on a theatre week session to start the sound creation. I want to work with Usine, like i do since a few year.

Do you think Usine HollyHock on Mac should be ready for this time ?

if i begin to work with usine, should i'll transfer my patches ans workspace on hollyHock later ?

Thank you.

workspace are not compatible actually .

how about VSTs made with SDK v3? Or more precisely 3.5.2, the most recent one, that has some updated features that are actually worthwhile (albeit they should have been included from the very beginning of architecting the standard in the first place)?

Unfortunately the VST3 specification is not totally implemented in Hollyhock, but it's just a mater of time.
