touch screens with more than 2 touch points
trying to upgrade my setup, i tried to find a display with more than 2 touch points. for a life performance 2 is like playing the piano with 2 fingers...
so here is what i found:
tablet:
Dell Latitude xt, xt2
HP TouchSmart tx2
Stantum Slate
monitors:
M2256PW
clams:
Dell Studio 17"
Lenovo t400s
(source: http://lii-enac.fr/en/projects/shareit/ ... vices.html)
...and that's it. does anyone know of any more?
i just got an email from wacom saying (although their hardware could do more) they are not planning to write a driver for more than two touch points...

Fujitsu has announced a 10" tablet/convertible with 4 fingers support : http://fr.akihabaranews.com/59684/table ... a-4-doigts
then HP TouchSmart tx2 is not powerful enough

@senso:
is the tx2 not powerful enough to run usine? or to support 4 touch points?
future 4point tablets:
HP Slate
Fujitsu Lifebook t580

about hp slate , have you recent news ..? cause they first want use windows seven, then web os , then seven again and so...
about the tx , you can run Usine but as i remember senso tell us it's really limited in performance

that's amazing how long we wait
HP slate will probably have a nice touch tech, but will fall in the low cpu category once again im affraid.
still dreaming of a v2 ipad with pc hackable widi, could be out before those :;,::n,:n pc manufacturers
make a descent portable monitor, if they ever will....
after all that wait, only one real true multitouch monitor than can be connected to correct cpu,
...oversized and overpriced ........ pffffffffff
on the other hand, will have plenty of ready patchs to play with when the challenger will come...but damned when?

Hi,senso wrote:then HP TouchSmart tx2 is not powerful enough
It is something that I don't understand very well. Do you speak about a lack in performance for audio processing or for multitouch control ?
I have a Latitude XT2 (Core2Duo 1,6 GHz), and it has to my taste enough processing power for some kind of audio processing. I suppose that it is not better than the 2+ GHz Turion of the tx2.
In all cases, they have a lot of more power than the iPad. But the iPad is very good to run multitouch audio apps, even if the audio processings are limited compared to what Usine can do of course.
Multitouch in the XT2 is not bad, but not as reactive as in the iPad. In Usine, it is not worst when playing at runtime than during design, where simply moving objects in the interface designer is a pain.
So I wonder if the "not powerful enough" verdict is related to the way that WIndows 7 has implemented the multitouch features (it must be far better in general apps, considering the power of the CPU, compared to the iPad), or if it is due to the way Usine draws things ?
On this point, it is very slow and uses a lot of CPU when GUI design (with the mouse), compared to Synthmaker for example.
Do you think that this point can be improved, and if yes, will it make a difference for multitouch control on "slow" systems like the tx2 and the XT2 ?
I use to have a tx2 and i do not recommand it :
It's not a matter of W7
- no fire wire
- very, very noisy
- DCP latency is terrible, you can't use an USB card with less than 2048 audio buffer length
- very very slow, Usine with an empty wkp take arround 40% cpu.... (with my actual pc basic it takes less than 1%...)
- the graphic card is a joke...
- 12'' is definitively too small...
Even if the tactile surface is reactive, you'll do nothing with 70% of CPU load....
the 3M cost 1500€ so 300€ more than the tx2... and a surface x4...
We are looking for a grouped purchase of the 3M monitor so maybe we can have it for a lower price.
interested?

i'm potentially interested too
Martin FLEURENT - Usine Developer - SDK maintainer
Yes, could be interested, but it depends of the cost....

I would assume that for a group purchase everyone involved would have to be in more or less the same part of the world?
The 3M is already much cheaper for me to buy in Canada, 'only' $1599 US + shipping and 12% tax. Ultimately though it is too big for me because I also use hardware music gear and don't want that big of a footprint but if there is no other option by say....Christmas, I might just do it.
According to PQLabs http://multi-touch-screen.com/product_plus.html "19" to 24" overlays are under development at the moment but their 32" 6 touch point overlay is already so expensive I don't see the 19" being cost effective (32" is $2399)

I could be in as well for the M3, its 22" not 32" right?
How big should be the group buy?

welcome chtarba , I'm afraid 3m is not enough reactive so the group buy will be maybe down...
Hi nay,
ok if there is any news on a good multitouch screen i'm here
cheers
