Hi guys,
since i often deal with live impro looping it's essential for me to communicate BPM and ppq's and all the relevant Tempo related infos to the host of my choice. This way i can record on the fly something in my patch e communicate to the host the right tempo.
Can it be done with exported VST/i ?

many thanks for the info.

Actually impossible because not implemented in most of hosts and not included in the VST protocol.
In other words a VST can't the host tempo in the general case, absolutely not a pb with Usine.

Technically the 'audioMasterSetTime' function is deprecated in VST2.4 specification...
A suggestion for Steinberg?

hi senso,

thanks for the info.
anyway in Synthedit there is a module made by Chris Kerry ( actually under my suggestion several years ago ), that does exactly this.
Bidule i.e. can receive as a host Tempo infos.

I'll make some pressure on Ableton Live ;-).

In the case of ableton i think that is possible to put a VST in a Max4Live "shell" and then receive the tempo info from the VST and translate it for ableton using the verious Max4Live<->Ableton Live intercommunication techniques.

As I said most of host don't receive TimeInfo. As I know, only Bidule can, but easy because it's not a sequencer...

yes but it's not a VST, it's like in Usine: you can change the tempo within a patch!

Search 'audioMasterSetTime' on the net you'll read very instructive literature.

yes...i'll give you an example VST that actually works i.e. in Bidule ;-) as soon as i came back from gigging around.

for the Max4Live thing in the mean-time one can do the calculations inside the VST and let it come out as a 0-1 range audio signals and send it to Ableton via Max4Live...not super precise...but at least can work...i guess

thanks

hehe.. true...is a modular enviroment.
Usine can as a host with its own patches...and Ableton Live can with M4Live Patches...
i was planning of using Usine Exported VST and M4Live Patches inside Ableton...

Have you thought about using Live as a ReWire slave? Using the ReWire VST from energyXT you can set up Usine to be a ReWire master.

I don't use Live, but I use the ReWire VST to slave Reason to Usine and it works fine.
