Nay-Seven suggest to make Add-ons available for all user (not only for Gold Members).

- It can help new Users to discover Usine.
- But discourage new Users to buy a pro license. The Free version is already powerful for most situations.

So I don't know...

What is your opinion?

It could be a good idea.

in my opinion, it depends on the organization of the add-ons. actually I just found add'ons are not really organised, and maybe it could be some more add'ons ( from basic to complexe)and organise with category. for exemple :

spacial/ delay
destruction
loop/sampler
tools
midi tools
etc

it could be possible to give access to one category for the free version ( the one you find the best for bussiness) and to give some very simple add'ons free ( an insert add'ons very simple to do, and it could help beginners to understand usine for exemple).
I 'm thinking that actually usine pro need more add'ons, ready to use . of course it's important to build personnal add'ons , but with a lot of useful add'ons, organized with categories, I would like to buy usine pro, because usine is very inexpensive. and after some practice, i will begin to built my add'ons.
sorry for my bad english, and hope this help

what about this idea :
- keep the add-ons visible for everybody as you have now
- make a download link for a just couple of them, so that non-registered users can have an idea of what can be build as add-ons

this will be a supplementary motivation to buy Usine

Hello,

I think it' a good idea to have a brunch of add ons available for no registered people to see what can be made with usine.

In the same time, keeping the other for registred only is good too, it make a kind of community bonus for those who buy a licence.

the kara idea seem's a good solution.

just my two cents

The actual limitation is also a good way to limit the circulation of cracked version. (The 2.64 use to be hacked a lot)

There is another option, like include a set of basics add-ons in Usine the package.

Also I have to reorganize the add-on section, actualy a cheerful mess...

I think it's not the same to put some add ons in the free package or let some few on add ons section for non registered user.

I think the second solution is better for free user to discover the usine community and they can say to themself when they are on the add ons page : "i have these addons for free, but look all the others add ons i can have if i buy a licence". who is not the case if they just pump up the free version and use what is inside.

hope it's clear.

+1 for martignasse's suggestion.

...and I also agree that the add-ons section is in need of a reorganization...

+1 too for martignasse's suggestion.
But well, who will reorganize the add-ons? Hm?
One day Olivier will have plenty of time, maybe, the question is "when?!!!"
Another remark about the add-ons themselves: Most of them seem to be for uncommon (but interesting) stuffs; do we have add-ons for the most common situations? (what are the commons situations?) And, if the answer is no, who will make them?!!!!!!
Yan? You're good! Very good!

Good question, Vincent: What are the most common situations?

Since Usine with it's openness can be and is being used in quite different ways, maybe we could have some sort of poll asking what add-ons the users feel would be most handy, especially when they are/were starting off with Usine. I'm guessing more or less simple patches of utilitarian nature more than creative/weird triggers or such-like. Of course I could be totally wrong about that...

Regarding which add-ons should be for free download, I also feel that utilitarian patches are good candidates, like for instant a MIDI clock out. It's something that probably a lot of users will need, and it's also a very simple patch which can only be a good thing if one wants to attract new (paying) users.

If noone else volunteers, I could try to create some new structure for the add-ons section. What possibilites or limitations the site software offers I don't know, but I really don't think we need something very advanced. Just a tree structure - preferably with the possibility to let the same add-on show in several places if it fits well into more than one category. The structure could have a top-level entry for the free add-ons so that those are easy to find.

Hi
I am not a "gold" member, and the multi outs + the "addons" are 2 features that would really push me towards buying the pro version.
On one hand, i like to try before buy, but on the other hand, i think that even without the addons plugins i can already have a nice overview of what can be done using Usine Free and feel if the way it works is ok with the way i work.

I think you should leave it as it is now. The free users have to buy a license to get the extra tools.

And I also think that running Usine without those extra tools is a good way to try first to go deeper in it before buying the license, because you try to do it by yourself. +1 to your opinion.

I am trying the usine demo, and I must say I really impressed. These add-ons may be the thing wich make me decide to buy the full version. From the commercial point of view, you should keep this as it is.

Thanks for all you comments and suggestions.
It's time to make a choice?

The evolution will be done in two steps:
1) try to make Usine easier for beginners with a lot of tools like the actual Livekit.
2) improve the add-ons section: better classification, easier upload procedure, etc.

So unfortunately for unregistered users the add-ons will probably stay limited.

I still haven't bought a license (payday yet to come, it's monthly here...), but in principle I'm all for the current arrangement: users get to try a fully functional program, argue with it, learn its little ways, and crave MORE tracks, MORE content, MORE add-ons: it's time for an upgrade!
It makes sense both in a commercial and a spiritual point of view; I'd personally flay anyone found cracking such an inexpensive software masterpiece!
Yeah, the add-ons section might be better organized, but it's not too awful at the moment...
