Otomata is a generative sequencer. It employs a cellular automaton type logic I’ve devised to produce sound events.

as you say 23fx !
i have to admit I'm also fascinated by the visual aspect of this kind of sequencer like monome and friends
my reason say that the most important is the musical result and maybe we don't need this, but can't completely abandon the idea...

If you can forgive a bit of self-promotion, I have a plugin called Nova3, that was inspired by Otomata, that runs as a VST and generates MIDI output. Description and download links are here:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=319771. It's a freebie. Still in alpha but pretty stable on most systems so far (though I have not heard for sure about Usine so let me know if this doesn't work for you)
Have fun.
