Hi folks,
I'm a studio guy, but i'm really drawn to usine because of its open-endedness, it's very exciting to have such a low level control on things in a host.

I'm used to noodle a lot with midi (in Live, eXT and bidule) though, and that's where things start to get problematic for me in Usine as i don't play my stuff live, but need to rely on sequencing solutions.

I love how the step sequencer and piano roll have mod-able params like step pos etc, this makes for a lot of tweakability, but those are far from being really convenient when doing serious composition work IMO, they could use a handful of usability enhancement.

I suppose a lot of users rely on midi generating Vsts like energyXT, but then you lose the sheer power of being able to control the sequence's play parameters...

Just wondering what's the best solution ?

I'm new to usine, I just learn to use it now (downloaded the demo), so I'm in an "observe" state. I want to use it as a VST rack on my second computer, so not interested in those special "freak" stuffs (I know, this is not just a simple rack software it is much more...).

So, I run into a question/problem very early when I try to setup a simple config: I know, the track number is equivavent to the midi channel number, but what in the case if I use a multi-channel instrument? Like Kontakt.
Let's suppose I want to use my USB Midi In device's channels 1-14 to Kontakt and 15 to another VST and 16 an other one too.
How should I set it up?
Sorry, I cannot realize how to do this, I read the manuals, maybe I dismiss something.

hello and welcome denzo !
you can use midi filter modules for this purpose :
here an example :

you choose the canal you want to filter , the module has 2 out :
1 pass your midi canal
2 (reject ) pass all others..


here i've also add the possibility to use midi bus for canal 15
this way you can send the canal 15 to an other vsti/vst on an other tracks
( on the other track , click and drag a wire from his midi in inlet and choose get from existing bus and choose canal 15

I think the best solution in your case might be to use Usine as a VST in another host which in you are comfortable linear sequencing with. This way you can have the best of both worlds IMO as you can combine the flexibility of Usine with the straightforward functionality of a standard sequencer. Keep in mind in this situation you can freely route and record midi and audio back and forth from Usine to the host and vice versa.

I do most of my midi with VST's so I can't say I've completely explored what Usine has to offer within itself, so maybe someone else can still offer same good suggestions...
