5.2.22 buffer issues
5.2.22 buffer issues
Hello,
after upgrading to 5.2.22 I'm having issues with my audio card.
Setup is MacBook Pro i5 with 8 Gb ram, RME Babyface Pro.
Here is the routine i went through:
The first time I opened this new release with my audio card connected I was having a totally unmanageable sound quality, as if the buffer was set too low, while it was read at 512, very weird as I was usually setting it at 256.
After changing it to 256 the situation became apparently smoother and the sound cleaned out, but I noticed dropouts and glitches were still occurring.
After I changed it back to 512, Usine freezed showing and "error E033 Audio dropout rack 3", after which I had to force quit.
Please note that with the preset I had running Usine was showing a resource use of 7% and 0,5 Gb on the upper left box.
I loaded the same preset once again to check these data and found that, while Usine was showing the same figures as above, activity monitor was showing a cpu load between 77% and 87%.
When I load the same preset on 4.1, same buffer settings result in a totally smooth audio signal.
Any idea what should I check for?
Many thanks

Hi Olivier,
I had a very quick reaction from support but unfortunately after my feedback he disappeared.
This is the first time I get in touch with him and don't know what to expect.
Many thanks

thank you Oli,
I appreciate.
The issue is happening just with 5 and above.
I'm on Usine since more than 6 years with no problem with audio card, dropouts and glitches once the latency is set up according to cpu/ram load, however with 5 and up I'm getting dropouts even with one single input/output rack with no processing on my workingspace.
My audio card is set exactly as yours: buffer on 256 and block size at 128. It works flawlessly with Usine 4 and up, even with massive processing.
On Usine 5 and up I have glitches and dropouts even when i set buffer at 1024 and block size at 256.
I think it means there's something which needs some work unless I'm the only one getting such results.
If you have anything in mind i should check, I'd be happy to hear it.
Thanks!

Hi Luca,
I'm not sure it will help, but try to desactivate the softclipping option (in setup/audio) and reopen Usine. On PC and RME audiocards it works.

thank you, it looks like this adjustment hasn't solved the issue.
the last thing worst doing is cancelling Usine and do a fresh installation.
Will do,
thank you everybody for your help

thank you very much Oli,
the settings you're showing are the same I have. I just had to switch hardware acceleration off.
However 5.xx is still not working, it shows consistent dropouts and glitches.
Will do a fresh reinstall later today.
If it doesn't work I will get back to 4.xx and accept some plugins won't work.
In the meantime I will look to alternatives to Usine, it's just happening in a very inappropriate time, with many works going on and no time to waste.
btw, your settings page looks different than the one on 5.xx, are you still on 4.xx?

Other thing to check if you're usine osc :
Make the osc faster in the settings as usine can go beserk when receiving fat osc.
There is also something to do in the registry to set the priority to your sound card. IRQpriority

thank you Oli,
very kind from you.
I had to stop checking for the issue as I needed to choose a setup to use for the next studio recording and start preparing sounds on it. Usine 5.x was taking too much time to work as I needed, so I decided to go for a combination of modules and pedals for this round.
I will eventually get back to it once I'm finished with recording with this new project and have some spare time to dedicater it.
However I couldn't resist to taking a look to the post you mention
and saw you're talking about PC. I moved to Mac after ages on Win and I honestly have no idea how to reach that layer of registry tweaking on the apple...
Excuse my Italian
many thanks again
