Decent laptop ?

Unread post by daviche » 14 May 2024, 14:59

Hello everyone.
Having worked on a Mac for many years (including with Usine), I'm thinking of buying a PC laptop to use exclusively on stage, with Usine.
Can you give me your opinion on a configuration like this?

Asus VivoBook 16X N3604YA-MB014W (16", IPS, Full HD+, 16:10, 60 Hz, Ryzen 7 7730U, RAM 16 Go DDR 4, SSD 1 To, Windows 11)
AMD Ryzen 7 7730U (Octo Core 2 GHz / 4.5 GHz Turbo - 16 Threads - Cache 16 Mo)
CPU frequency 3.2 Ghz, 8 core
AMD Radeon Graphics

Thanks !
Composer - guitar player
Dell INSPIRON 16 5645
Windows 11
RME Fireface UC - EVO 8

this will be more than enough for all the audio in Usine. The most important thing will probably be the sound card.

One of the biggest factors for selecting a PC (IMO) is that there is no problematic hardware / driver configuration that will cause a high DPC latency, and therefore poor realtime audio performance. Sometimes this can manifest as a network or bluetooth etc device that can be disabled, sometimes the problem can be deeper rooted and unresolvable.

I do not see the exact model listed here, but when I search this page for "16x" some similar models come up that seem to perform favorably https://www.notebookcheck.net/DPC-Laten ... 376.0.html

Between ensuring that your laptop has adequate resources available for good realtime performance and a rock solid audio interface (RME?), as long as you are certain that you have enough system memory, then you should be good to go :)
