sampler and waveform display
Hi,
really newbie with Usine, but I'm really interested in the sampler module !
great work.
I just tried to connect the sampler and the waveform display as in the sampler example... but I can't figure how to connect the red and green inputs of the Waveform display to the sampler... ("waveform" and "caption").
I ' m on win 2000 pro... maybe it's for that reason ?
thx

ok give it up...
it seems that the waveform output of the sampler (memory mode... ok) doesn't display on my crappy computer...

I'm still running 2000 as well on my work computer, and I just checked that things work ok it by ctrl-draggin from the waveform outlet of the grain and "normal" samplers onto some empty spot in the patch designer. It worked without problems (I have V2.81), creating all default connections (from -> to):
sampler pos -> wave pos
sampler waveform -> wave waveform
sampler filename -> wave caption
wave start pos -> sampler start pos
wave end pos -> sampler end pos
The default start/end pos connections (wave -> sampler) let you use the mouse on the wave display to set the positions and move the whole "window" back and forth. If however you want to set the positions on the sampler itself but still have the visual feedback in the wave display (with "show loop" on), do the connections in the opposite direction.
Happy sampling!

You were giving up as I wrote... I'm not quite sure about the following (and I can't test it now), but make sure that you've sampled something - not loaded from a file. You should also be aware of a typical error to do in Usine that makes you wonder why nothing's happening: make sure both the audio engine and the track is running!

Hi Lematt
? WinXP Pro 2002
? AMD Sempron 1.21 GHz
? 512 Mo RAM
i can tell you that my workspaces are light (4 tracks and not complex patches) but it works!
Don't loose heart!
We'll help you to become an expert.
And what about mine? I had recently to downgrade!...lematt wrote:my crappy computer...

ok thanx guys, I'm not desesperate
it's not for sampling: it's just to play samples from disk.
have just read your posts: but I must explain it again:
I put a one bar drumloop in the sampler. I want the waveform display to show me the whole loop.
But there is NO RED WAVEFORM OUTPUT in the outputs of the sampler.
I mean: in the example (sampler + pitch) the waveform input of the waveform display IS connected to the sampler although there is NO F***ing output on the sampler.
That's what I don't understand.

If the selected module has more parameters than can be viewed at once (depending on the screen resolution) you must use the up and down arrows located above the parameters to scroll between them.
It's not quite intuitive, but any wires connected to an "invisible" parameter look like they're connected to the top of the module even if the parameter is below the visible parameters.
Did this help?

Hi Lematt,
Yes, Bsork has found the solution (some of us call him The Killing Norwegian).
Maybe you're not in so high resolution that your screen just cannot show all the connections. 1280*1024 recommended... It works fine with a lower resolution, but forces you to scroll very often on big modules with a lot of connections, or big patches with many controls. (the screen - and the audio card are the only not crappy parts of my computer)
Select the sampler in the patch edit window to show it's properties on the left panel. There, just below the caption white bar, you can see two gray arrows. Click on UP or DOWN arrow to scroll the connections of the sampler module until you see the "missing" connections. You'll see the wires suddenly appear at the bottom of the module.
Breathe!
The reason why wires seem to start from the top of the module when you cannot see their connections is simple: it works just like when you "reduce" the module by clicking on its small white top-left square. That makes heavy patches look lighter.
Note that you can see those arrows in many other occasions (e.g. Global Remote...)
