Hi,

Ive been experimenting with the "live bar recorder" for looping recording / looping the audio output from my vst instruments as well as an audio input from my outboard guitar processor/modeler. Ive configured a midi pedal to trigger record stop and start. Its really a lot of fun, and im impressed how it quantizes the start and end of the loop automatically. Im having great fun looping drums, then bass, then guitar, then 2 or 3 more keyboard parts, but im reaching the limits of my hardware.

My question is can the same thing be done for recording and looping midi parts on the fly? what advantages / disadvantage are there? Which is easier on CPU?

Thanks

yes , you can do exactly the same with a piano roll module , just add a rec button ( you can also add a fader for example , to the inlet " num file " to record several midi pattern )
about cpu , midi himself is of course lighter , but i suppose you gone to link a vsti behind this piano roll..??
so the choice of this vsti will determine your cpu too...
and the bigger advantage is editing option after recording..

As nay-seven said, it's possible. I've done it in the add-on SeqX8. Try to build your patch and i will help you if you want...The main advantage is that you can record your midi part, and then have fun with VSTi parameters (filters, LFO...). It's really usefull and light on CPU for live.

seqx8 is an impressive patch, yes. especially the drumseq is very well made.

@ethnix: only thing i dont like is the rather high cpu usage. dont know if this can be answered, thus. what would u say which parts of your patch would benefit from an efficient module or script?

@amiga909: Thanks senso for the drumseq patch! it's just a slightu modified version.

I will have a look to see what could done by a script or module. Thanks for your proposition amiga909!

Hi,
I'm new to the forum so i apologize if my question has already been answered.
Is possible to prepare a midi track to automative rec/play/loop/vsts parameters/stop to get pedal free looping? In Ableton is easy enough to get this thing, but I don't like the GUI and the layout...identical to every traditional DAW...If i could get this done into Usine this would be the ultimate reason for purchasing it..

@ ethnix 73 : can this SeqX8 be found in the add-ons section ? I didn't find it ! looks interesting, I've been building a Midi recorder, but have a few issues with it. would love to see how you did it !

@fractalist: you can find this add-on in the "other" section by selecting "5.* and before" with the compatibility filter.
This add-on is not usefull now with Hollyhock possibility and the grid. But have a look if you want...

aaah, ok, it's because I only own and thus looked for Hollyhock..
Well, it might still be useful for me, or I could learn things or compare with my ongoing patch, so, thank you !
