So far, I've tried a few free and non-free amp simulation vsts, with mixed results:
1) I managed to run the SimulAnalog Guitar Suite, which is good; it doesn't sound very good, which is bad.
2) Frettedsynth Helian Bass is quite good, and works well.
3) IK Multimedia Ampeg SVX works very well.
4) Freeamp 2 works like a charm, and is surprisingly good! But if I save and reload a patch/workspace containing it, Usine crashes to desktop...
5) I tried IK Multimedia Amplitube 2.0, and while the first time it loaded without problems, when I activated the patch it sent CPU usage to 100% (under Cubase I can activate 2 instances, with different presets, without problems) and I had to manually close usine with the task manager... Since then, if it is present in the VST folder and I force Usine to scan it, I get a nice crash to desktop...

So I'm stuck with no convincing guitar amp simulation: any advice/comment/miracle?

I'll try amplitube. ANd see what's wrong.

Just tested: Nothing really wrong except that Amplitube is not CPU friend!!!!

Any idea about the fact that Usine doesn't want to scan it anymore (when I scan VSTs)?

try to look in the VstScan.ini file (in the usine folder)

found the .dll for the VST and if you have INVALID=1, try with 0

hope it help

I think the vstscan.ini files contains effects, not causes...
It assigns an "invalid" state to a plugin that, for one reason or the other, has given problems: once so flagged, it will be skipped during VST scan.
If you reset the "invalid" flag to 0, the only thing that will happen is that Usine will retry scanning it, and crash...

You have 2 VST scan modes depending on the file/setup/interface [allow deep scan]

1) normal [allow deep scan] disabled: test shortly. In that mode there is no reason to crash Usine because it's only a simple file name scan. The Only cause of crash is a bad hard disk or bad windows file system.

2) deep [allow deep scan] enabled: Usine try to open each VST to extract characteristics (number of in, out, etc.). Usine can crash if a VST is bad. But if you restart, Usine continue the scan process and ignore the bat VST. In that case You'll probably have to restart several times Usine until the entire scan is achieved.

I still don't understand why Usine crashes (10 times in a row, then I got bored and stopped trying) when Amplitube is present in the vst directory and I do a deep scan: in VstScan.ini there's no "invalid=1" flag associated with Amplitube, and anyway once I got it to work (or at least open), so I can't understand why now I can't...

Disable Deep Vst scan!
You only need it if you use VstShell plugs like Waves plugs.
Note that for VstShell plugs you can fine an utility call Shell2Vst (search it with google) which converts Shells into separates Vst's. Very useful.....

FreeAmp2 works fine here. Also try ReValver 2.

And guitar rig is ok (every function, especially the loop machine) in Usine on my setup.
