Audio devices IN Patching

Hi all.

Since a long time when i create a new Audio Device Input for the INPUT 5 of my soundcard, i path it like that :
Path Device for the Input 5 of my sound card
Path Device for the Input 5 of my sound card
Recently, a friend told me it is not the right way to patch it, and he told to me to patch it like that :
Patch Device for Input 5 of my sound card - 2
Patch Device for Input 5 of my sound card - 2
I have not found a clear explanation, neither in the manual, nor in the tutorials, nor in the forum for patching devices of this type. I have noticed that if I move an audio out on top of another one, it changes their assignment (the 2 goes to 1 when it is placed on top of 1) without changing the wiring, but I have trouble to see it clearly.

What is the right way to patch?

Thank you very much.

In the first case, your audio device send 2 mono signals to its 1 and 2 output. It's the simplest way to use your signal in a rack, with stereo plugins and stereo patches.
In the second example, you send 6 channels, but the signal is only on 5 and 6. It's only useful if you work with surround (and if you need to get the signal on 5 and 6)
Take a look on the surround patches; it will help you to understand

OK thank you, very much.
So my patching method is correct.

Why when I switch Audio out 1 over Audio out 2 in a patch without changing my wiring, the 1 becomes 2 and the 2 becomes 1 ?

What is the use of this?

Thank you.

In Usine, you choose your in and out numbers from top to Bottom.
for example, I usualy split my stereo to surround like that :

the volume module is stereo, but the left output goes to 1, 3, 5 and 7 and the right output signal is send to 2, 4, 6 and 8

Thank you.
Yes i understand that and i patch like that too.
But, that i don’t understand is why i can’t move and group the out 1-3-5-7 on the top and the out 2-5-6-8 below.
It is not very important but i ask to myself what are the utility of this organisation from top to bottom ?

Hello,

It is for convenience and patch organisation.
Everything is handled from top to bottom, audio in and out, data, string, array .....
