Hello, please Mr. Senso, are you planning to implement something like this? (I think you said something like this in this forum in the past) I mean something like more conventional in-line piano roll, more advanced functions to work with audio (fade-in fade-out and its automatic overlapping etc.) etc.? If you will do so, the Usine become to be most advanced DAW in the world IMHO, absolutely great. Now I must use some traditional DAW and usine only for more advanced stuff. Could be great to have all in one app... not very advanced DAW features, but only basic user-friendly things for comfortly composing of songs... Anybody here has same opinion and wish as me? I think Usine have potential to absolutelly kill eg. EnergyXT(2)... THANK YOU for answer...
Sorry for my bad english :/

I imagine that, like a lot of users, you're impatient to use Usine as composer tool.
We are working very hard to improve important points you describe in your post.
We'll take a particular attention to the piano-roll and turn it into a powerful module.
I know we are late...

for some non-standard piano roll tools:

if wanted i'd volunteer in helping to make a specification for midi composing.

just thinking aloud about new features a piano roll could have:
- implement geometric functions as tools (like in the bigbang movie)
- why not replace pitch with velocity? then u could go nuts with coloring notes with color and opacity as a function of a scale/chord paradigm.

for other suggestions please refer to older posts. imho we already collected a lot of good ideas.

that´s interesting stuff, but what I´m talking about is very simple tools for fast basic composing without worrying about patching etc. This complicated tools are great but for me in early stage of creating song I need something very fast and user-friendly for writing main ideas and building song structure... Not everyone is doing ambient and other "abstract" genres... For example I want to do metal in Usine!!! :) (of course more or less "experimental" metal, but... I hope you understand)

siegfried, i am 100% with you.
i compose with piano rolls since about 8 years now. i am used to the classic piano roll scheme and can draw drums and melodies quite efficiently this way. and its sadly the case that i cannot use my skills with the piano roll as it is now.

there is some exciting news about energyXT 2.5 which could be used as a vst piano roll.

they've now implemented clip markers (by now: set automatable marks in the sequencer as Usine does).. still in early development stage but if they implement all the functionality from energy 1.x it could be kewl. the developer said that they develop it with users in mind that just want the piano roll.
also, there is some buzz about Orion Platinum 8 coming up with remote control for midi patterns.

surely, the automation controls won't ever be so kewl as in Usine's own piano roll :)

amiga909: I´m not much optimistic about XT2 development... I used energy XT 1.4 in the past and XT2 from the beginning and stop using it due to slow development, EXTREME amount of bugs and missing basic features... :( I loved it, but I cannot wait forever...

P. S. What does it mean "kewl"?

kewl means 'cool'. sorry for my degenerated chatroom english ;)

@siegfried: yes... i could use xt1.x as a piano roll vst now... but for the reasons u say i never did...
however.. we'll see how far xt 2.5 goes.. i tried the new live markers and it worked.

the best solution still is phrazor by sonicbytes. but due to some NI trickery (this is a widespread assumption) this great vst host plugin was abandoned. phrazor has an excellent clip automation system, and u can template everything. the only failure it has: not quite bug free, and no full screen piano roll.
i've done a few live sets with it - but encountered too many bugs. however, its exactly the kind of vst midi sequencer i'd wish to use.

new sequencer plugin arrived:

not exactly a piano roll, so its probably not what i'd love to have. nonetheless the performance controls are inspiring :)

seems it's the long awaited replacement for ERA? looks pretty interesting but i'm not sure it'll do everything we want...

looks nice but that "composer friendly mode" MUST have advanced pianoroll of course... I want to be able to compose classical music easily in Usine :) (just an example)

Any chance to have option to start pianoroll inside sequencer screen (in-line editing like in EnergyXT2 etc.)? And automatic cross-fades between overlapping objects (for audio cutting/editing/aligning recorded guitar etc.)... this two things is, in my point of view, two most important for composing inside Usine... Again, thank you very much for such nice work and support!
