Hi everybody,

first of all, my best wishes to all Usine users and developers for this new year :D

Now, the bad news : I have just upgraded my Mac Book Pro to High Sierra and.... no more Usine HH2 for me now :/
When I try to start HH2, I just see the bouncing icon and... nothing else. After a few seconds, the icon disappears and that's all.
I have tried to re-install the app from the zip (V2.9 04a), moved the app to Applications folder : same result.

I have downloaded the last version from Sensomusic website (2.0 092c). Now MacOS complains that the application is not allowed to run (thank you GateKeeper )
If I try to bypass GateKeeper with the Control key, it takes a long, long, long time to "check" the application. The icon remains on the bar but after a few minytes : same result, the icon disappears.

My other DAW applications (like Reaper and Max) are still working so I assume that it is not a question of updated drivers or something like that.

Does anybody have the same problem or even better, is there a solution to run HH2 on High Sierra ?

Thanks

Benoit

Hello,
Thanks for your wishes , same for you and your family,

Sadly Apple have made too many changes about writing rights on High Sierra and several other things and HH2 will not be compatible.
If you check the compatibility page you'll see that even HH3 is not officially supported yet (currently works, but you'll need to put the app on the desktop, right clic and open) but we work on this.

Hi Nay-Seven
thank you for the quick answer.

By the way, I just gave a try with HH3 : exactly same result (even if I put the application directly on the desktop, with right click, etc...)

Sad to know that HH2 is then basically not compatible at all with HighSierra. The problem is that I need to have High Sierra on my machine (as I am a developer needing to check if my app are still working on HighSierra :P)
So for now, I will probably use HH2 in a virtual machine (laughing in advance, because I will probably install Snow Leopard on it), I think HH2 will work in a VM without big problems (even the latency with CoreAudio should be OK)
In last case, I still have my Windows10 machine...

Really strange you can't start HH3 , several users use it without issues ( except this first start).

What you can do is start it the first time from an external drive, then you'll can copy it on the desktop or in the application folder.

I just tried to make it start from external drive : I have put the ZIP file directly on the external drive, decompressed the ZIP on the drive and tried to launch it

Same result : I get a warning from OS X telling that I want to start an application from the drive for the first time, and when I click on "Open", I see the bouncing icon for a few seconds, and the icon disappears.

Now, something that may be interesting for you : if I try to start again HH3 from the drive, it says again that it is starting for the first time, like if Mac OS did not see the application starting at all. So apparently, something happens before the application gets registered by the OS.

There is no emergency for me to have Usine running on High Sierra, so don't loose too much time with investigations on this issue just for me ;)
If you need me to check anything special on my machine (like the logfile or anything else), just ask, I will do my best to help you

ok, generally using an external drive is ok,
not easy to solve because we can't reproduce, can you check if the log file inside Usine has been created ?

The logfile is generated within the app package, right ?
As far as I can see, the logfile is not generated (but maybe I am looking in the wrong place, can you confirm the place where it is supposed to be created, just to be sure)

Thanks

Hi,

I'm looking for a plugin or a setting that can generate vibrations
on a frequency or a sound in a sample.

for example my wish is to be able to obtain the sound vibration comparable to 2 plates or 2 glasses which is
the effect of a sound volume or frequency.

I hope you will have the great guide for me with your experience :)

I thank you in advance

And I wish you an happy new year

Best regards

Pascal

Hi Pascal,

I recommend you to post your question in the correct section of the forum, since it has nothing to see with the current topic.

Thanks

Hi Nay Seven,
I think you did not see my last answer (because the message from Pasccal came between).
Can you confirm me where I should look for the logfile on the Mac ? I will check for it then

Thanks

the log file , if created, must be in Usine , beside the folders :

I repeated the test from a clean zip, ju to be sure. Results are below :

- started directly from hard disk (app being on the desktop) : the log file is not created, I can only see the four folders after the application has been started a first time
- started from an external drive : same results, the log file is not created too

So apparently, it's a low level crash even before the software is fully loaded (the Mac always asks to confirm that application is launched for the first time)

If you want to perform some more tests, don not hesitate to send me a private email

Hello everybody,

good news, I finally found a possible way to solve the High Sierra issue with HH3, with predictive results :D
Apparently, the HH3 crash I have seen is related to a question of rights when the engine wants to write something in the package. I spoke with another Apple developer I know, and he confirmed me that access rights differ now on High Sierra depending on the folder where the application is stored. We are currently trying to find an official document from Apple, describing these changes.

I was able to perform tests on 3 differents Mac, all running High Sierra, and I have seen interesting things.

First thing I have seen : I could not start HH3 at all with Mac running OS X 10.13.3 or lower. The version of OS X must be 10.13.4, so something seems to have been changed by Apple in this last OS version which allows HH3 to start finally.

I have downloaded a clean version of HH3 (V3.0.168-1) with Firefox and unzipped the application in the download folder.

Test 1 : I try to start HH3 directly from download folder. On two machines, HH3 crashes after OS X checks the package, but strangely, it worked on one machine :/
Test 2 : I made a new fresh unzip and starts the app from desktop : HH3 keeps crashing on the 3 machines
Test 3 : I have created a folder in my user directory and... tadaaaa !!! :D When the application is started directly in such a folder, HH3 starts correctly. OS X complains that application was downloaded from an unknown developer, that it is 32 bits and not optimized, bla bla bla... but finally the application decompresses itself and starts correctly.

The only thing I could not do was to check if the HH3 licence is recorded properly (I have a HH2 licence, not HH3) but at least I know I will be able to use Usine on my Mac again

ok, thanks for your investigations,
What is strange is that all users who ask me about this, i ask (as I've wrote in the manual) to run Usine from Desktop and it works each time . I test all versions of High Sierra and it solves the problem each time, even with apple beta versions.

Well, the most important right now is you find a solution for you ;-)

Hi nay-seven,
I have been able to catch something during the crash of HH3 under High Sierra : I get a "runtime error 231 at 0001A749" in my XCode console. Not sure this can be useful, but at least this time I saw something
