Spamers. Looking for solutions
As you have probably noticed the site is under Spam pressure...
I make a important effort to maintain this forum as clean as possible. But it's an hard job.
We have more than 3 Porn or Pharm post per day. Unfortunately, most of Usiners are almost youngs and not really interested by Viagra. Or Not yet, maybe in 30 years for the version 45.6 of Usine?
I'll be obliged to adapt the PHP code to filter, in a more efficient way, intrusions.
The problem is that it's an hard job for me because I'm a real beginner in PHP/SQL stuffs.
If there is a PHP specialist on this forum whose could help me for that?
thanks.

Just posting here so I can start another thread
FYI: I read in the paper today that using Viagra over a long time in fact can damage your hearing... Music is probably a better aphrodisiac!

actually we have the same problem with the forum of one of my group. a friend is actually working on it and if he find a solution i will send to you.
We are three administrators. Maybe could we first agree on a kind of alternance? Considering my usual schedules, that could be efficient while waiting for php codes...

Well, I check the newest user(s) almost every time I log in, and I suspect that Olivier does the same. If they look suspicious, I delete them and (mostly) ban the domain.
It's often not very easy to determine whether this is a "real" user, and a lot of those that obviously are not, use various free email services which probably shouldn't be banned. A dilemma...
As I've said before, I know next to nothing about PHP and have nothing to offer with that part. SQL on the other hand, is something I know very well, but I reckon the embedded SQL statements needed for this purpose won't be very advanced.

As far as I'm concerned, I wait for the "guilty" post before doing anything, just keep an eye on the presumed suspect. I'm not very used to be that kinda dog...bsork wrote:If they look suspicious, I delete them and (mostly) ban the domain.

hi,
i'm not a specialist, but it could be good to add a picture authentification module on the register page (a module that aks you to type the code auto generated in a picture), this is a common way to ride off all the spammers robots, at least.
hope it help
anyway, you'r making a good job at cleaning the forum, i didn't noticed this was the spamming season.

olivier, check your mail, hope it helps...
a picture authentification module on the register page could help too but a lot of robots can pass this protection actually.

Is there a way to make the forum "just for members" with some thing like "une lettre de motivation" (I don't know the word please help) to become member ?
Sorry I just don't have any idea of how (or so little) of how works a forum.
May be it's some kind of "elitiste" or "high priority person only".....
Anyway once more time I have to say this is a great soft and so peaceful to find this kind of soft made BY and FOR Musician.

well, Grego's suggestion makes perfect sense: I felt slightly ashamed of hijacking a thread just to say hello and gain the right to ask a question on a thread of mine...
Just demostrating the patience to sit down, organize his/her thoughts and write down a small letter should be a good test of a user's goodwill.

The spam problem is solved now! (thanks to 'Le Vrai Bernardo')
The verification code we have to enter before registering seems very efficient.
And we could try to disable the 'post something' before 'post a new topic'.

Definitely understand the spam issue, Hello Everyone...My name is Sephult definitely glad to start digging into Hollyhock!

Just noticed, whenever I view my own post the counter increases.
Although its not a problem, thought it was odd I could just increase my own counter on my posts.
I could create a Macro and make it look like 1000+ people are viewing and mislead people to view themselves.
This could be considered a spam issue if someone entered the forum, posted...and mislead others to think it was a hot topic.
Just a thought. Probably not potential at the moment, but as a spammer this is one route I could take to get more people to view.

Another prevention method to make it more difficult to spammers....
Should be a limit on the number of replies before having to return back to the main forum.
This will prevent users from getting mass subscription responses and make it more difficult for bots.
Say i have a post on patch editing....a spammer could enter then just keep creating replies with a mass-reply...(maybe there is a prevention method already in place underlying). Just another thought

probably i can help with this.
FWIW I can't seem to be able to post a new thread*, even though I have already posted once in an existing thread.
But I read earlier in the thread that this requirement has been removed?
*Maybe I'm just overlooking the button somewhere?
[Yup, the issue was me
The link is in the top right, if anyone else is as blind as I am.]
