I played around with Kontakt in Usine today, as I want this to be part of my live setup. I bought Kontakt just a week ago, so I'm still a beginner at it, but anyway: I use the preset manager to change between active instruments in a Kontakt multi. Every time I change the active preset though, Kontakt unloads the samples and then loads them again. This takes some time, so I would not want to do this in a live situation.

Also, there seem to be more glitches in the audio when running Kontakt inside Usine than using Kontakt stand-alone.

One solution of course would be to have another sound from your song to play while Kontakt slowly loads in another patch.
Or else resample the output of the entire mix into a synced loop and play that while everything loads. This is in part how I do it but I am playing sequences and not so much live midi input so it is easier to make sound natural. Also I am not using Kontakt but I use load patch extensively which also causes a pause.

Also, if your OS is 64 bit and your computer has lots of memory you can wrap Kontakt in jBridge and run as many instances as your computer will allow without stressing Usine's memory limits.. This is possibly the best solution.

For now I solved it by placing Kontakt on its own track, receiving MIDI from the first track via a MIDI bus. I load up all the instruments I need in Kontakt on startup, then I switch between these using MIDI. Works pretty well!

jBridge seems cool, but I've spent to much money on music stuff recently. Time to make some music with the tools instead of just buying new ones :) Even though I must say I'm tempted of upgrading Kontakt to Komplete 7 when it is released...

How big would the difference be if I were to run Kontakt as 64-bit?
