very very very interesting!
one thing I don't understand, how can I hold and release on touchless system? and how fast practically it is possible do that? Motion precision is really impressive but the main problem of touch technologies are that they are not as fast as physical ones [buttons and keys are always better]. So the precision is twofold: for moving and for touching.
I though the same, but now I'm realizing that maybe the system works by anticipation, that is, our hands are really slow (comparing with the paw of a cat, for example), and needs so many previous movements and gestures to get the action done, so that we become very "predictable".r.erorr wrote:one thing I don't understand, how can I hold and release on touchless system? and how fast practically it is possible do that? That looks great, but where's the full body version!
For a dance work this could be fantastic! I like that you can perform without having a monitor between you and the audience.
Cooooooool, I want one. Doesn't look like it will be released until the end of the year though.
There is an SDK too so perhaps it could be integrated in Usine as well, that way Usine could respond to a user's unique gestures.

yes, i follow this too
@clearscreen, it's an answer to the kinect who work correctly for the body..?

Does it work differently to kinect though? Kinect is basically depth perception with IR, the last bit of the video (the hand in the 3d matrix) seems to indicate better 3d perception with Leap? Haven't had a good enough look though to be sure...nay-seven wrote:yes, i follow this too

don't know the technology behind this, but the hardware seems small and more focused on hands actually
maybe they will decline for body later..?

Hi,
I need your opinion
Do you think it could be a good alternative for touchscreen laptop?
I never worked with touchscreen for the moment.

maybe not the best example but the leap motion will probably be great for music and of course Hollyhock

hi there!
a friend of mine got the developer edition..and frankly, this thing looks very promising. stable and fast tracking, rather unbelievable..usable under almost any lighting conditions, due to the infrared diodes..i don't think it will replace "traditional" physical UIs like keyboard or other tactile controllers, but it will undoubtedly expand the possibilities of human interactions with software of any kind.
it's a cheap and reliable technology..and, the clever bit, it concentrates on analyzing our hands..lots of meaningful information/data in a compact space..Manual communication..and that's a an everyday practice and comes rather natural...signing things, talking via gestures..unlike the touch screen gestures..
i will have a look at it on Tuesday. maybe i can persuade my college, which is a programmer by trade, to have a look into Usines SDK. I mean, there is a max-msp object already available and as i understand it, Leapmontions SDK is rather "abstract", so no fiddling with RAW data..

Preordered quite a while ago and hope it will work well with Usine.
Should be soon now - February or March I guess...
Cheers,
Tom
