Making Kontakt 6 presets work with Kontakt 5??

Unread post by woodslanding » 05 Mar 2020, 19:57

I have many hundreds of Kontakt presets set up in my wkp, for recall by name. In a mistaken housekeeping move, I recently did a batch resave, not realizing I was doing it from Kontakt 6. So many of the patches won't open . Now I went into the patch and replaced Kontakt 5.dll with Kontakt.dll. Now none of the presets load, because Usine thinks they are not applicable-- I'm guessing?

Now I do have 90% of these still on a backup, but I was wondering if there was a way that Usine could recall Kontakt 5 presets from Kontakt 6. The format is of course compatible, and it seems as if Usine is just detecting a mis-match in the VST name, or something like that??

Any hope for this? I would actually like to move to Kontakt 6 eventually, and don't relish resaving 500 presets.

Thoughts??

BTW, if kontakt pops up an error message and usine is in fullscreen mode, you do not see it, and cannot bring it to the top. You cannot even bring taskmanager to the top. The only way I've found to dismiss it is from the taskbar, which will top if you ctl-shift-escape to try to bring up taskmanager. Then from the taskbar you can left click the usine icon, and then right click the error window popup and select 'close window'. Otherwise as it's a modal invisible window, you can do nothing but shut down the computer!

Maybe you can test to open your workspace in a text editor and search for the word kontakt, i suppose your version 6 have a different name than the 5 one..

Well, I found my K5 backups, and turns out that wasn't the (only?) problem.

For some reason, neither instance of my large Kontakt patch will do patch changes. This is a patch that has 16 32-patch PMs. (I have several other Kontakt instruments that have fewer PMs, and they work fine!) The status popup in the upper-right of the screen shows the patches being selected, but nothing happens in Kontakt.

BUT THERE'S MORE... I saved the Large Kontakt Patch in V3, and if I re-load it into the workspace, it changes patches fine! But if I resave the WKP and reopen it, the Kontakt patches are broken again.... I haven't yet tried saving it as a V4 patch, guess I'll try that next, just to see....

I'm stumped! Unfortunately, my WKP runs over a gigabyte, and uses a dozen different VSTs, so I can't just post it. I'll keep trying to track it down.... For now, I'll just have to reload them every time I start up.

Other than that, the V4 is working pretty great.

So here is the subpatch that is not loading patches for Kontakt. This is all Kontakt 5, and works fine in HH3....

Can anyone spot a problem with this, before I ask Olivier about it?

As I mentioned, this sometimes works when loaded as part of a patch into HH4, but has not been working when the wkp is saved and reloaded....

I guess scripts are still not running in protected memory(is there a reason why this has to be? Could it be an option? I have 64gb in this machine!) so maybe this has nothing at all to do with what's going on in this patch. :|

Thanks!
